Loyd's Presentation Abstract

Executives will want to use MBSE

A good portion of Systems Engineers understand the value of model based systems engineering. There is a bridge that many executives must be led across before they will endorse the resources needed for your company to be effective at MBSE. Dwight Eisenhower said, “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.” Frequently the approach taken by systems engineers is to provide statistics, to describe the process, to resort to the negative statements of “don’t blame me when we have to do a massive redesign, we could prevent these issues if you just let me…”.

MBSE is about telling a story. Showing someone how the big picture comes together and how all the little elements of the story add detail and color and bring it to life, is all that is needed for them to take over as the champion. This session will discuss how to present the story of MBSE to non-systems engineers. Once the CFO or program manager or VP understands why they want MBSE, you can move beyond asking for permission and get to showing results.
